Directed Headers and Volleys: Two people are needed. Throw the ball in front of a player who is running toward the goal. They will need to reach the ball before it hits the ground. They try to volley it into the goal.
Trapping the Ball: Two people are needed. One person throws a ball at the others- right foot, left foot, right thigh, left thigh, twice to the chest, and twice to the head. This will be done in that order. The person receiving the ball will bounce the ball back using right foot, left foot, right thigh to right foot, left thigh to left foot, chest to right foot, thigh to left foot, head to right foot, and head to left foot. The ball should not touch the ground and the person who threw the ball will also catch the ball. The kick back to the thrower should be accurate enough that the thrower does not need to move his feet to catch the ball. The purpose of this drill is to improve skill in controlling the ball from any part of their body and bringing it to their feet.
One on One: Two people are needed. They both face eachother on opposite sides of a square. One passes a ball to the other and defends while the person who received the ball attempts to dribble around them and cross the other end of the square. They cannot travel outside of the square.
Stop in the Square: At least three people are needed. This game can be modifyed for individuals or as a team game. The grid is set up two or more small squares set apart from eachother. If more than two squares make sure they are in a circle and equadistant from the center of the circle and from eachother. Someone kicks the ball into the center of the grid and one person inside each square sprints to the ball. They try to dribble it and stop it completely inside their own square.
First to: Two people are needed. They lay down with head next to ball. When a whistle is blown they jump up and try to take the ball and stop it in their square first.
Fight 1v1: Three people are needed. One throws a ball in front of two players. They race for the ball to get in front of it and fight to be the one to collect it in the air
Forward Passing: Two players and one ball are needed. They stand apart from each other and begin running down the field. One has a ball and passes it in front of the other player so that they receive the ball while they are running. The other player passes the ball back in front of the other player so they can collect it without having to stop running. This continues until they make it back to the side of the field they started on.
Crossing: Three lines are formed around the half line. One line has all the balls and take it down around that 6 to 30 yard line where they cross the ball in front of the other two players. These players run toward the goal and try to score from the cross.
The Chip or through ball: You have one player kicking the ball and a line of offense and a line of defense. You must be cautious of the off side rule. The kicker will try to chip the ball over the defensive line or kick it through an opening toward the goal but not too close to the goal that the goalie could pick it up. The offense will run to the ball and try to score.
Quick Passing: There will be two vertical lines of players facing each other. They pass the ball as quickly as possible to the first person in the other line and run to the back of the other line. This drill focuses on "one touch" passing. The two lines stand about 6 feet apart. Another variation of the drill is long kicks (30 or more feet apart).
4 Corners: Four lines of players stand around the goalie box. Two are at opposite ends of the 6 yard line and end line. The other two stand across from them at the 30 yard line. You also need a goalie. The first line passes across to line 2 who crosses to line 3. Line 3 kicks the ball in the center of the goalie box where line 4 will run for it and shoot. It is a "one touch" shot. The players switch llines by going in a clockwise direction.
Keep Away: All the players are in a square. The players are split into two teams. Their goal is to pass around and keep the ball from falling in the other teams possession. The drill is improved if movement and creating open angles are encouraged.
Defense/ Offense Simulation: There are three simulations. One is a scrimmage. Another is a mini soccer game (such as 3 v. 3). Last simulation is a half field game where offense takes the ball from the half line to shoot while defense defends the goal and tries to kick the ball away. If the ball is kicked out the simulation begins again.
Possession: A series of squares are set up. A defender is set up in every other square. A player attempts to dribble through all the squares and make it to the end without the ball going out of the square and losing the ball to a defender. When a player loses to the defender, The defender will take the ball and try to go through the rest of the sequence and the player who lost the ball will become the defender in that square. Usually the set up includes about 10 squares.
Team Games
Sharks and Guppies: All the players have a ball except one. The one without the ball is a shark who tries to take the ball from all the others (guppies). If the "guppies" dribble out of bounds or if their ball is kicked out of bounds they lose and sit out of the game. The last "guppie" standing wins and becomes the next shark.
Lightning: One person passes the ball to a line of players and a goalie starts in the goal. One person kicks the ball across the goal and in front of the first player in line. The player makes a one touch shot on goal. If they score they move to the back of the line and the next person in the line has to become the goalie. If they miss the kicker becomes the goalie. When a goalie is scored on they are out of the game. The last player standing wins.
Keep Away Shark Style: All the players have a ball and attempt to kick out everyone else's ball while protecting their own. If they dribble out of bounds or their ball is kicked out they lose and sit out. The last player with his or her ball still in bounds wins.
51: There are two teams. One person kicks the ball out to mid-field where all the players are standing. The first team to retrieve the ball tries to score while the other team becomes the defenders.
First Team In: This game has as many teams as you need. Every team consists of two players. The ball is kicked from a corner and every team tries to work together to make a goal. The team that makes the goal sits out for the rest of that round. The last team left in each round is out of the game completely. For the next round the teams that made a goal return and try again. The winner is the team that made a goal every round and are the last team standing.
